I recently relocated from New York to Florida. Believe me, this move was planned years ago – way before COVID-19. When the time came, I was super excited to leave the cold weather behind. But. little did I know, I was in for a huge shock. I was completely unaware of how weather change can be so dramatic. Whew…It is HOT in South Florida in the Summer.
I survived my first experience of living in South Florida during Summer, but it’s October now and it’s still hot. Fortunately, I’m a dressmaker and a designer so, I got to work and started designing pieces for my Fall wardrobe that doesn’t look like Summer clothes. I say that, and I laugh, because when I arrived here from New York last Fall, I took off my jacket, long sleeve tank and jeans and tucked them away. Then I transitioned to tees, shorts and flip flops. But all of my warm weather pieces were pink and yellow and white and floral. Yes. I felt comfortable, but I was missing that Fall Fashion feel. Have you ever felt that that way?
I knew that I needed to get to work and start designing. So, for my first piece, I drafted this pattern from the bodice block that I use for my figure. This fun polkadot print fabric from Jo-ann’s made for this really cute flounce front top.
Designing this pattern was simple. By simple I meanI knew I wanted it to be easy fitting…no sleeves, no buttons and no hemming. It only took six pieces and I was done. Simple doesn’t mean compromising on style. Simple stylish layers is the key for putting together my Fall wardrobe.
I’m all done. I’ll pair this top with a nice V-neck cardigan that can be worn on an evening out by the beach when the sun goes down. For the day, I can flaunt a pair of designer sunglasses with a wide-brimmed hat.
When I planned my search for the colors that I want in my Fall wardrobe, it wasn’t by accident. Sometimes, it helps referring to the latest color trends. New York Fashion Week Color Palette for Autumn/Winter 2020-2021 was a perfect source to find nice Fall colors.
I have alway been partial to neutral tone like grey. The grey color of this fabric falls inline nicely with the color they refer to as “Sleet”. This is how they describe this awesome color:
