Eating Vegan for the first time was a Delightful Surprise!!
Hi Everyone. You all know my beautiful model Kia. What you may not know is that she is a Vegan and she raves about her Vegan and Vegetarian finds. A few weeks ago we ventured down to Harlem in New York to try a restaurant that she had been dying to try called Seasoned Vegan. Yes, believe it or not, we’re wearing coats and boots…It was April and it was still cold outside. It’s now May 6th and we’re so glad that the weather is finally starting to show signs of Spring in New York.
I’m so glad that we are very close to the city. It is usually only a thirty-minute ride from where we are in Lower Westchester to Harlem, 42nd Street or Central Park on a good day. This day was a good day. Although it was cold outside, the traffic was moving (that’s a big deal in New York) and the sun was shining brightly.
We decided to go on our venture to Seasoned Vegan on a Saturday for brunch – around 11:30 am. Saturday is a busy day for Ribbons & Zippers. I’m usually in my studio designing, sewing, doing a photo shoots, or blogging. But, I am so glad that we took this day to venture out, without dressing up and try this restaurant. I am not a Vegan and I have never tried Vegan food. I say I have never tried Vegan food and Kia always says…”have you ever tried Peanut Butter and Jelly, Oreos, Bananas or Apples?? LOL ..”
Fun Fact: Oreos are Vegan. That’s why they say it’s creme filling…not C.R.E.A.M filling.
I have to say, this restaurant absolutely impressed me. When we arrived, the restaurant was already full. As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of fine food, I always believe that a busy restaurant is always a tell-tale sign of a good place to dine.
I was surprised that the wait wasn’t long at all. We hardly had time to take pictures on the indoor stoop before we were called to our table. The waiter graciously escorted us to our table with a warm and inviting smile. As we walked through the small restaurant to our table, which only took a few steps, I was reminded of all of the small, quaint New York Jazz Clubs that I have been to. I immediately thought of how the best things come in small packages and I was very anxious to see what was in store.
As I sat and looked over my Brunch Menu (we also were given the Lunch menu because it was close to 12:00 when we arrived). I notice all of the good looking food coming out of the kitchen. Everything looked so good. I settled on the Fried Fish and Grits from the Brunch Menu. Yonna ordered the Craw Fish Po’Boy Sandwich and Kia ordered the BBQ Ribs and Fries from the Lunch Menu.
Wait..? What..? Fish and Pork..? I couldn’t wait to see and taste this. Of course, Kia needed to remind me that nothing is as it seems. “Everything is vegetable or plant-based not animal”.
OMG!! What a Surprise…Everything was so delicious and tasty! As a non-Vegan, I couldn’t tell you that I wasn’t eating meat-LOL
Well, there you have it. This was my wonderful Vegan Venture that turned out to be one of my new favorite things. I highly recommend Seasoned Vegan. The food, drinks, and desserts are especially tasty too.
